Eid celebrations continue in full swing
Dubai: Eid celebrations continued across the UAE yesterday as children and families, young and old alike, flocked to the many attractions put on specially for this special festive season.
Spectators at Dubai Festival City were wowed by blasting fireworks and children shrieked with amusement on the fun rides. Fireworks will also be displayed tonight from 8:30pm.
Abu Dhabi residents relaxed at the Corniche, spending precious moments together, while others watched traditional Emirati dancing at the Heritage Village.
Many decided to head out to the east coast, enjoying the beaches and the relaxed atmosphere of Khor Fakkan.
Dubai's newest attraction also drew large crowds from the neighbouring emirates and GCC countries, with people flocking to the city to have their own Dubai Metro experience.
Noel Mendoza has come all the way from Doha to take a ride on Metro during the Eid Holidays. "I have heard a lot about the Dubai Metro ever since it was opened, and was waiting for an opportunity to come to the Emirate. We do not have anything like this in the entire GCC and so it is a great attraction," said Mendoza, who works as an administrative professional.
Umm Hammad, a Kuwaiti housewife too is in Dubai for the first time with her four children and sisters. She said she could not resist taking a trip to Dubai after she saw news about the Metro. "It is so beautiful an experience for us. And the best thing is we can move around the city and hop from one shopping mall to another in the train," said Umm Hammad.
Dubai residents are also taking full advantage of the more affordable mode of transportation offered by the Metro, and venturing to places they have never been to.
One such is Lotfi Tadj, a teacher at American University of Dubai. "I live in Greens and take cabs to move around. Now that I have a station very close to where I live, it is much easier to explore the city. I am taking my family to Rashidiya and nearby areas because we have never been able to see that side of Dubai because I do not drive," said Tadj.
