UAE celebrates Eid Al Fitr

Dubai: The UAE along with many other Muslim countries celebrated Eid Al Fitr, the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, on Sunday.

People greeted each other with Eid Mubarak and young and old, Emirati and expatriate alike were in a festive mood.

Fourteen Arab countries have announced that they will celebrate the Eid on Sunday.

Families with excited children are gathering at the UAE’s many green parks for barbeques, to play games, relax and generally celebrate their time together.

By 10am on Sunday morning, there was already a queue to enter Dubai’s Safa Park, with families pushing prams, clutching umbrellas and eagerly awaiting their festive Eid meals.

On Sunday night the residents of Dubai will be treated with a fireworks display, traditional henna painting and local music at Festival City, while in Abu Dhabi the Ramadan and Eid festival at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) is welcoming visitors with traditional songs and dances.

Sharjah’s Qanat Al Qasba will also be hosting a fireworks display, against the backdrop of its famous big wheel.

People are also expected to flock to Dubai’s newest mode of transport, the Metro, for which the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has put three extra trains into service, to cope with the rush.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, Tunisia and the Sunni community in Iraq, are all celebrating Eid on Sunday.

The legal moon sighting panels in the respective Arab countries decided that Saturday was the last day of the month of Ramadan and Sunday would be the first day of the lunar month of Shawal
