Sharjah pushes for better quality products
Measures to ensure that consumers have access to high-quality products that meet world standards at reasonable prices were discussed by Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) and Sharjah Co-operative Society.
Opinions and suggestions about how this goal can be achieved were debated at a one-day seminar sponsored by SEDD.
"Through this seminar we sought to reinforce the idea of social responsibility, motivating businessmen to contribute to sustainable development for the good of society while at the same time improving consumers' lifestyles in a way that serves both the economy and sustainable development," said Nawal Askar, Director of the Economic and Public Relations Department at SEDD.
"We see in the Sharjah Co-operative Society a strong strategic partner that has played an important role in maintaining the development levels achieved in the past five years."
Mohammed Ahmed Ameen, General-Secretary and board member of the Sharjah Co-operative Society, said: "This seminar provided us with an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of SEDD to ensure that high-quality products are available to consumers.
"Our goals match those of SEDD. We have identified the role of co-operative societies in providing basic food needs and fighting price increases, as well as identifying their role in modifying consumer behaviour. The Sharjah Co-operative Society is committed to supporting social co-operation, catering to consumer needs, spreading awareness, promoting consumer education and providing training courses. We are honoured to be involved in building Sharjah's economy."
The organisations also discussed the economic and social roles played by co-operative societies and the role of the Sharjah Co-operative Society in safeguarding food security and maintaining competitive prices.
