Ramadan food prices
The Ministry of Economy yesterday held a co-ordination meeting with
some 40 importers and traders of Abu Dhabi to discuss the plan made by
the ministry for Ramadan.
The importers and traders were asked to maintain market stability and not to manipulate prices before or after the holy month.
The
meeting was chaired by Director of the Consumer Protection Department
Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, who urged importers and traders to reduce prices
and stop any attempt to exploit the market.
Al Nuaimi called on attendees to provide commodities throughout Ramadan.
An
agreement was made between Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Department of
Economic Development to reduce the period of storing vegetables and
fruit in refrigerators from seven days to five days and to open the
refrigerators during the day to increase the supply of commodities and
ensure a permanent supply of commodities.
Al Nuaimi asked
importers and traders of the emirate to fix price tags on products to
protect consumers against any price manipulation during Ramadan.
The traders said they were ready to co-operate with the ministry to reduce and monitor prices during the holy month.
